Meet the Artist

Born in Chicago in 1949, Craig Schaffer received his B.A. from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and his M.F.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. He currently maintains homes and studios in Washington, D.C., and Pietrasanta, Italy.

He has taught at The Ohio State University, Oregon State University, and the Bard College program in Lacoste, France.

In 1997 he was the U.S. representative to the Hualien Stone Sculpture Symposium in Taiwan. He has shown in juried shows around the country and abroad.

Public commissions include work for the Princeton Institute for Advanced Studies, The Mathematical Association of America headquarters in Washington, D.C., Brown Tower Mathematics Building at The Ohio State University, Baptist Hospital Desoto in Memphis, the Hualien Cultural Center in Taiwan, Temple Beth Tikvah in Worthington, Ohio, the Leo Yassenoff Jewish Community Center in Columbus, the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio headquarters in Columbus, the Columbus Jewish Foundation at the Robins Center for Philanthropy, and the city of Gaithersburg, MD.
